When Taylor Sparks moves from New York City to Big Bear Lake, California, her life is forever changed when she meets a hot guy with winter-blue eyes named Jesse. Their attraction is instant, the chemistry undeniable. But sadly, things aren’t adding up. Taylor wonders what her ‘crush’ is hiding. When her new friend, Fred tells her his suspicions about Jesse being a paranormal creature, Taylor laughs. But when Fred turns up dead, she believes every warning he ever told her.
Taylor is shocked to learn that Big Bear Lake isn’t just glittering lakes, towering pines, and breathtaking mountains…there’s more…way more than meets the eye.
For this review, I’m not going to divide the post into ‘Good Stuff’ and ‘Bad Stuff’ sections because honestly, there really isn’t any good stuff in the book.
My biggest complaint about this book is that why are there wolves on the cover of each book in the series?! The main Hero/male protagonist is a Vampire. I know there’s an alternate cover too (on the right) which features the vampire but the main covers for the whole series have wolves (were-wolves) on them. There wasn’t a big role of wolves in the book but I guess they might be important later on for the story. Also I don’t like the alternate cover. Other covers are very beautiful (probably the reason why I picked this book 😐).
I kept reading this book because I had too many expectations and also I hate to leave a book unfinished. You can say that this book is just a teaser. It’s kind of like a cheap version of Twilight.
Taylor moves to Big Bear Lake. Her mom’s friend also moves there, so her mom’s friend’s daughter ‘Julie’ and Taylor become really good friends. Julie takes Taylor to party without realizing how dangerous it was. Taylor later finds out that the party was filled with Vampires. Jesse saves them from the party and then they run into wolves and a psycho killer. They somehow survive all the action.
The author also managed to include some Witch stuff into it all. It felt like she was trying to create another ‘Vampire Diaries’. Well, you probably know by now how it goes. Taylor’s friend ‘Fred’ is killed by a vampire and then she starts realizing the truth about Jesse.
Finally, Jesse confesses to her and tells everything about the supernatural world. And…That is it! That’s the whole story of this book. On top of being an annoying story, the pace of it was also very slow.
It was totally a waste of time. Please don’t read this book.
